Land Rover computers measure, amongst other things the airflow into the engine to determine the correct fuel to air ratio and ignition timing, if this is incorrect then you have a loss of power, incorrect emissions and possibly a misfire and hesitation at high engine loads.

The airflow meter is especially important in Land Rovers that have been converted to LPG as this type of fuel depends on the correct ignition firing and air/fuel ratio.
